Custom Content and SEO

Do you ever wish you had a map to SEO?  Maybe even a "Periodic Table" of SEO?

Well you're in great luck.  Our friends at SEOLand.com have made this available:

The Periodic Table Of SEO Ranking Factors, used with permission

There are some simple things you can do to help your site "get found" by Search Engines like Google.

Remember when you create site pages that SEO is an ongoing process that does not bring instant results.  Real SEO for requires an ongoing focus and marketing strategy, and time and effort.  That's why you might want to hire someone who specializes in the custom content that can help produce good organic search results for your site on a search that a typical customer will actually do to look for the goods or services you offer.

Some Basics to keep in mind:

  • Define your site KEYWORDS
  • Use the Keywords inside your page Content
  • Have good website copy
  • Use technical features like meta tags, robots (robots.txt), sitemap (sitemap.xml) files
  • Try to build up appropriate site back links and the typical business references in articles, magazines, blogs, etc. for your industry
  • Try to ensure that your site has UNIQUE content -- also known as Custom Content which will improve search rankings and help you stand out from the crowd
  • Read the free download below on SEO.  This tutorial includes how to use the www.firstcupsite.com Site Creator platform and integrate it with Google Webmaster Tools and other SEO necessities:

Remember Questions #2 and #4 back on the Website Answers page?

What most site owners are after is a "Triple Hit": Site Creation, Site Marketing, and Site Conversion.

In plain English:

  • Site Creation is creating and publishing an initial "live" version of your web site.
  • Site Marketing is using Search Engine Optimization, Custom Content, and creating olinks and using advertising so your customers and potential new customers can find your site
  • Site Conversion is when that customer goes to your site and then contacts you or calls you or transacts a sale online.  You have then converted that person from a stranger into either a sales lead or a customer.

Sounds much simpler now, doesn't it?

Increasingly business owners are looking to professional writers who can produce high-quality, easy-to-read, and informative marketing and other content for their websites.

We heartily recommend site owners to either assign a staff member or hire a professional writer who can help with custom content for your website.    Most web design "wait time" and re-work is due to site owners not having the elements of content needed, or those items are not in a publishable format.

Busy small business owners concentrate on running their business -- and they hire a professional writer to get the job done.

What to do when you need custom content for your website?  What about SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?  But you can't do it yourself?  If you do not have the time or staff for creating custom content for your site, we suggest you hire someone who specializes in copywriting, with real writing talent and a track record of SEO and with custom content. We can  recommend:   Andes & Associates as a custom content and SEO firm.

Andes offers a great, free newsletter on SEO and Internet marketing tips which is pithy, interesting, and not full of techno-speak mumbo-jumbo that anyone can easily read, understand, and implement.  So, even if you don't need a copywriter, we'd recommend their free tips newsletter, hands down.  You can sign up for the free SEO and Custom Content newsletter here.

In case you're wondering, FirstCup SiteCreator is putting more emphasis on SEO than we did before for our nonprofit client sites because custom content and search results really can make a big difference.

Another resource?  Backlinks, or people linking to your site from theirs.  Many nonprofits and for profit businesses do not understand that they need to have links to get found by site engines.  There are different schools of thought on this.  But the web is very much a living thing.  You can't have good SEO if you don't have some links and have ignored unique, custom content.

And those site updates really are important to search engines like Google and others.  Why? Because Google is always looking for fresh web content and good, unique web content.  Okay, Google is kind of voracious, but Content is King on the web.

A GOOD backlink to your site is a wonderful thing.  Relevant sites that link to yours improve your site's visibility to Search Engines as well as to internet users in genertal.

Bad backlinks can be a different matter.  Invible links on non-relevant sites actually bring your site down.  "Black hat" SEO can also get ypu banned from Search Engines.
